And in Other News
Jun. 17th, 2011 06:10 pmI succumbed to the powers of an infomercial.
Sometimes it's too hard to change the channel. At least right away. So I watch these product ads for a few minutes. Frequently, I roll my eyes and manage to reach for the remote. Occasionally, I go "Ooooh, that's nifty. Too bad I don't have room/time/use for it," and change the channel. Once in a while, I am intrigued enough to watch for a while - either horrified or enthralled.
This was none of those. It wasn't some nifty kitchen gadget, or promise to solve all my problems. It was a hair-care product.
I am not, generally, one to pay overmuch attention to such things, but for the past couple years I have been dissatisfied with my hair enough to actually go out of my way to try different things. Mostly, it's a combination two factors. a) I see a hairdresser once or twice a year, and b) we have nasty water. I constantly have split ends, and my hair feels dry-as-straw in the morning and oily-slime by the end of the day. I have tried tons of different shampoos and conditioners, with greater or less success.
So, when my TiVo decided to watch a Wen infomercial (it thought it was watching Animal Planet, but we lost Animal Planet to some all-infomercial-all-the-time channel), I was curious enough to watch for a bit. I was skeptical, but intrigued. Eventually, I decided I was curious enough to try it.
It came in the mail, yesterday, and I used it, this morning.
It's only been once, and I haven't used any of the extra things they sent along with it, but. I am impressed. Who would have guessed that you could slather on a ton of what feels like greasy slime, comb it through your hair, and come out of the shower feeling clean? Right after, my hair felt soft and manageable - by which /I/ mean, I could comb through it without it snarling, and it didn't friz out when it dried.
It's now many hours later and my hair still feels clean. My scalp still feels clean. It didn't, ya know, miraculously cure all the split ends I already had, but I'm quite satisfied with the results.
If it continues to do well, I may just determine that it's worth the price. It's supposed to have given me a 90-day supply (give or take, based on the length of my hair). If, after 60 days, I am unsatisfied, I can return it for a full refund. Heh. I'll let you know.
