Strange Math Dreams
Dec. 25th, 2006 10:29 amRecently I have been having odd dreams with mathematical content. The first was, at least, straightforward, even if it was inexplicable. The second was just bizarre.
A few nights ago I dreamt that I was factoring binomials, and apparently explaining the process to someone else. Nothing exciting, except that I was distracted and had forgotten to factor out a two. Vic came by and corrected my error and I was terribly embarrased.
I don't know why I was dreaming about factoring binomials. I don't think there are any students in my school who are ready to learn this stuff, and I haven't had any reason to play with them in ... um ... years.
The other dream was last night. I was sitting in a classroom, as a student. I don't know what class I was taking, but it wasn't math or physics. Things were very odd... Among other things, I had taken a mandolin away from another student before he left for his other class, because I didn't want him to get in trouble. Then I got in trouble for having the mandolin. Actually, I got in trouble for putting it down. (As I say, there was something odd going on. There was a whole history in the dream of people having strange behavior or sudden super powers.) I tried arguing with the teacher (never a good idea), and then decided I would be better off if I just left the class. She said she'd allow it, and I asked for homework. She told me to solve the following equation:
"O into i equals balls times noise times dots."
Which she repeated as "O into i equals oo times ~ times ..."
As I left the room, I realized that the equation would plot the trajectory of the expulsion from a jeffries tube.
I think my brain is broken.
